The TED Center Business Incubator is a multi-tenant
facility with associated programs and services designed to
improve the viability and strength of small businesses and serve
the economic development role of creating new jobs.
The Business Incubator Program provides:
Rental space
Shared office support services
Professional consultation
Access to management / technical assistance
Computer training
Job creation and entrepreneurial education workshop.
The Business Incubator helps businesses grow in order to employ
more people from the community in the services industry
(janitorial, lawn service, etc...), professional services
(accountants, consultants, legal, etc...), food preparation, and
the construction industry.
The TED Center seeks to improve the viability of such small
businesses during the critical stages of early development. The
benefits are well documented through other incubator facilities.
See, for example, the results of a nationwide survey of
incubators conducted by the University of Michigan, Ohio
University, The National Business Incubation Association and the
Southern Technology Council titled Business Incubation Works (N-BIA,
August 1997). The Business Incubator allows businesses to
operate either by securing office space within the TED Center or
operating their business outside the Center. Clients identify
within the community they serve while sharing overhead expenses
among the other businesses in the incubator. In addition,
professional alliances and partnerships are often formed among
different businesses in an incubator, thereby increasing the
professional capabilities and marketability of their enterprise.
